For nine years, Casa Blanca has been famous for its prolific bonefishing and tremendous permit resources. The flats at Laguna Santa Rosa, Esperanza and the Tres Marias are a short, comfortable boat ride away. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a 1.3 million-acre nature reserve operated by the Mexican Government, surrounds and insulates Casa Blanca from the rest of civilization. The biosphere’s stringent regulations limit commercial angling and, in combination with Casa Blanca’s strict catch-and-release policy, assure great fishing for years to come. The fishing at this destination seems to improve each year, with greater numbers and even larger fish.
Casa Blanca has a fleet of Dolphin super skiffs, custom designed for the rigors of Ascension Bay. These state-of-the-art boats feature larger motors and a V-bow design, which substantially reduces the wave action against the bow while poling, and can access areas not reached by larger boats. The wide beam design provides an incredibly stable platform from which to make those perfect casts. Each has been outfitted with padded deck-mounted chairs, custom rod racks and dry-storage lockers. Primarily a bonefish destination, anglers typically encounter many schools of 2-5 pound bones; more experienced can try for larger single fish running up to 15 pounds. Casa Blanca is also perhaps the finest permit resource worldwide. A 38-pound world-record permit was landed on a fly recently, the angler’s first permit experience! Tarpon inhabit Ascension Bay and some nearby lagoons adding to the area’s diverse fishery. Exploring the labyrinth of mangrove-rimmed lagoons, your guide might suggest trying for one of the dozen species of snapper or sight-casting to barracuda and jack crevalle. Lying only two hundred yards from Casa Blanca’s beach, the Palancar Reef teems with numerous reef species and seasonal pelagic fish including wahoo, dolphin, and Spanish mackerel.
The lodge is sequestered on the windward shore of Punta Pajaros, just 100 feet from the ocean edge. Caring hospitality is extended by the entire staff who will anticipate your every need. Mexican dishes, mouth-watering seafood platters, fresh fruits and vegetables, and delicious American favorites are presented by the lodge’s imaginative chef. American managed, the lodge is always a pleasant surprise for first-time guests unused to finding this level of convenience in such a pristine location. The open-air, thatch-roofed lanai bar and large, inviting dining room area are perfect settings for exchanging fish stories after a day on the flats. Nine spacious bedrooms are well-appointed, with tile floors, mahogany shutters, comfortable beds, and attractive private bathrooms. A reverse-osmosis filtration system and bottled water provide the assurance of "safe" water. When you consider the logistics of building and maintaining such a deluxe facility, the overall value of a week’s fishing here is quickly put into perspective.
Located on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula at the southern end of Ascension Bay, Casa Blanca is a secluded oasis of comfort in the midst of one of the most diverse fisheries of the Caribbean.
